Leaving The Bad Place: ORC Guest

2nd Attempt Bath Remodel

I participated in the Spring 2019 One Room Challenge by remodeling a bathroom, and had a major impediment — the contractor. I’ll catch you up a little here, but you can read more here. The bath STILL being remodeled is between my daughter’s room and the guest room. My daughter’s a senior in college, so she had ideas and opinions. We decided to design the bathroom with both uses in mind, and I love the design we created together.

Our house was built in 1969, and I’d thought the bathroom decor was original, but I’ve since learned that at some point during the eighties, the bathroom was somewhat remodeled. This video shows what it looked like before any work was done.

We chose the most beautiful marble tile I’ve ever seen from The Tile Shop, and I designed a custom wallpaper pattern printed by Milton & King. I’ll tell you more about what we used next time. For now, I’ll just say that it doesn’t matter how gorgeous the tile, or how perfect the pink in the wallpaper if the people installing it do an awful job. Brace yourself. This is scary.

I was devastated not to be able to finish my One Room Challenge™. I’ve done a number of them before, see them here, and have always finished on time. Not finishing was never an option I considered — by signing on I was obligated to the sponsors, the other designers, and of course Linda without whom this amazing event wouldn’t exist. Yikes, it was a nightmare.

The very good news is that I have a contractor I like, and he’s doing a fantastic job this time. I’ll be finished soon, and sharing as a Guest Participant struck me as a positive fun way to wrap this up! Go check out here what so many other designers have going on during these incredibly challenging, fun, exhausting, stressful, inspirational six weeks!
